The project aims at raising the awareness in Peru of a non-Amazonian ecosystem, seasonally dry tropical forests, which although severely threatened, has received little attention from the scientific and conservation communities. It will use bibliographic and herbarium resources in the UK to build the first floristic checklist for the woody species of these forests in Peru, an essential tool to facilitate biodiversity inventories. A short field period in Peru will be be necessary to survey the remaining dry forest patches in the upper Huallaga River valley, which have never been subject to inventory.
