Summary

Expected project outputs would be a comprehensive database of freshwater invertebrates and the use of threatened and indicator species to identify priority freshwater sites; these would be mapped and integrated into plans and strategies. A freshwater invertebrate reference collection would be developed; and a freshwater ecosystem assessment tool to allow better understanding and quantification of human impacts, and their mitigation and management in key catchments. Expected project outcomes are improved management and sustainable use of freshwater systems; and better monitoring of these systems and understanding of detrimental impacts. An increased understanding of freshwater invertebrates, their importance in providing ecosystem services and their conservation. As well as a better understanding of priority freshwater sites, habitats and their associated species to allow better protection and conservation within existing frameworks.
