Biodiversity degradation is reaching unprecedented rates, and biodiversity conservation and restoration efforts are often underfunded leading to negative impacts on the environment and those living in biodiversity rich areas. “Biocredits” are an emerging approach to finance biodiversity that benefits Indigenous People and Local Communities. Darwin BIO will pilot biocredit schemes in the Northern Albertine Rift (Uganda) and the Tondwa Game Management Area (Zambia) for the sale of credits to finance community led conservation, reducing poverty and protecting and restoring biodiversity.
