Summary

The Northern Sierra Madre in Northeast Luzon holds the last great forest of the Philippines and important wetland areas but these, and their species, are threatened by agricultural conversion and unsustainable hunting and fishing. This project will engage communities in the management of local sanctuaries for threatened species. The project also promotes a nature-based solution to habitat degradation and poverty: agroforestry-based livelihoods as an alternative to unsustainable slash-and-burn farming in the sanctuaries.
